Ways to remain positive and optimistic
amidst the current pandemic
We currently are living in very uncertain times and it can be all too tempting to let negative events impact the rest of our day. But if we don’t allow it to have such significance, we are more likely to have a more positive day regardless of the circumstances.
Lets now think about some ways to help keep us optimistic everyday:
What are we grateful for?
We can remain positive by employing gratitude to consider what we already
have in front of us and remembering what we can achieve with what we have.
For example, when coping with a difficult situation such as pregnancy, you can
remind yourself of the positive result. This will be coming out of the pregnancy with your adorable baby and enjoying taking care of your little bundle of joy!
Goal setting
Another way to remain optimistic is to set goals which are realistic and
achievable.
This provides you with a focus and keeps your mind from becoming bogged down
with little things, as you will naturally be able to visualise the bigger picture.

- Focus on what you can control rather than something which is out of your control.
- Music - start the day playing music you enjoy and give yourself an instant boost of positive energy. I recommend an upbeat song to kick start your day right. I find it helps me get moving and motivated as I can be a little slow to get ready some mornings.
- Listen to a podcast whilst completing a mundane task such as filing, tidying up or cleaning. Keeping your mind alert to new information and ideas helps to maintain perseverance with your tedious to-do list.
- Plan something you enjoy after finishing work or a difficult task either at home or outside. It’s bound to help you stay motivated and maintain a positive outlook, despite the strenuous workload you have to complete.
- Keep a diary or journal to write down your thoughts and feelings. You may find you tend to use it when you are either annoyed or happy about something. It can be helpful to write down the problem on paper to enable you to visualise it and reach an appropriate solution.
Remember, you have the choice at each and every moment to turn your thoughts around from negative to positive to
help you power through your day!
